Honoring Chuck Johnson on Veterans Day

On this Veterans Day we would like to honor a core member of our Chinook Fest Family who served our country for 22 years.  Chuck Johnson is family to us, and like all of the other veterans that are a part of our CF Family, we are incredibly grateful for his service. Today we’d like to share an overview of Chuck’s 22 years in the United States Army:

Chuck joined the Army right out of high school as an Infantryman and graduated the infantry basic training at Ft. Benning, GA. During Chuck’s 22 years of service, he has been stationed all over the world and served in just about every position an infantryman could possibly serve (rifleman, team leader, squad leader, section sergeant, bradley commander, platoon sergeant, operations officer, etc…). Chuck has deployed to Bosnia, and served two tours in the Middle East (Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom). We’ve been told that Chuck’s favorite assignment was as a platoon sergeant while stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. Chuck field tested, developed doctrine and helped integrate the M2A3 Bradley fighting vehicle. Chuck has earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Air Assault Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal and more…

Thank you Chuck, and all the other veterans that are a part of our family. We sincerely appreciate all you’ve done for this country.

What’s New in 2017!

2017 marks the 6th annual Chinook Fest, and we have to say, we’ve seen a lot of things change over the years. Those of you who have been with us since the beginning will remember when Friday night was nothing more than hopping a shuttle bus to the pre-party at Gold Creek Saloon. You have seen our festival grounds grow from 12 to 24 acres and you have played a first-hand role, by sharing this experience with your friends, in growing the Chinook Fest Family from a few hundred to over a thousand.

We have to admit, change can be a little scary, but our deepest values have never changed. You can always expect to experience the best Roots-Rock, Americana, Country and Funk/Soul/Blues music around. We will continue our unwavering support of the local community; craft beverage creators, restaurants, small businesses and artists. And most importantly our appreciation for this Family that has grown out of such humble beginnings will never cease.

For those of you who were here to build the foundation of this Family and for those of you who are brand new members, here are a few things you don’t want to miss at Chinook Fest 2017!

Have you ever longed to sit around the fire with a musician, hear the stripped down, acoustic version of your favorite songs and the stories of their inspiration? Thisyear, VIP Weekend Pass holders will get to have that very experience in the Bale Breaker Acoustic Lounge. Three artists from this year’s line-up will offer special acoustic performances inan intimate and private setting. It’s an opportunity not to be missed. In addition, VIPs will have access to the Yakima Valley Hops VIP Area featuring a private bar and side stage viewing platform. You will also receive access to private and air-conditioned restrooms, the Yakima Valley Hops Crow’s Nest, which provides a 360° view of the festival grounds, and a gift pack of festival swag!

What’s better than Friday evening Happy Hour? Saturday evening Happy Hour too! This year, Saturday Happy Hour will feature Cody Beebe & The Crooks performing Classic Country’s Greatest Hits. It is sure to be a performance not to miss!

As festival spokesperson Larry Markwart so succinctly demonstrates here, this one is a little hard to paint the picture for, you’ll just have to see it for yourself. And we promise you won’t be disappointed!

Although you will have to wait to see the actual festival grounds for yourself, here’s an overview of the new parking areas, camping areas and various gate entrances to the park and surrounding land:

Get two or more of your friends to carpool to the festival grounds with you and you’ll receive priority parking in the lot closest to tent camping and the festival gates. The more the merrier, right?! Get lessons in professional carpooling from Larry here.

Well this one may not be all that new but we do have a brand new theme! This year, show us your “Best #ChinookFestFamily Hangout.” Interpret it as you will, get your CF Fam together and decorate to your heart’s desire. The winning campsite gets FOUR tickets to next year’s festival and some 2017 festival swag!
